A psychosexual evaluation is a comprehensive forensic assessment designed to evaluate an individual's sexual history, sexual interests, relationship patterns, risk factors, psychological functioning, and any concerns related to inappropriate or unlawful sexual behavior.

These evaluations are commonly requested by attorneys, courts, probation officers, licensing boards, treatment providers, and other decision-makers when questions arise regarding sexual behavior, risk, treatment needs, or fitness for specific roles and responsibilities.

A psychosexual evaluation typically includes a clinical interview, review of relevant records, psychological testing, risk assessment measures, and collateral information when available.

Depending on the referral question, the evaluation may address issues such as sexual offending behavior, allegations of sexual misconduct, problematic sexual behaviors, internet-related sexual offenses, boundary violations, pornography-related concerns, capacity for healthy relationships, treatment recommendations, and risk of future sexual misconduct.

The goal of a psychosexual evaluation is not to advocate for any particular outcome, but rather to provide an objective, evidence-based assessment that helps courts, attorneys, agencies, and treatment providers make informed decisions.

The final report typically includes diagnostic impressions (when appropriate), analysis of risk and protective factors, treatment recommendations, and opinions relevant to the referral question.

Psychosexual evaluations may be utilized in criminal, civil, family court, professional licensing, employment, adoption, guardianship, and other legal or administrative matters where sexual behavior, risk, or psychological functioning is at issue.
