Independent Clinical Consultant

An Independent Clinical Consultant serves as a neutral, non-treating clinical professional who can communicate directly with a client’s existing mental health providers, review relevant treatment information, and prepare a clear, court-appropriate clinical summary with the specific goal of reducing or eliminating the need for treating clinicians to appear in court. This role is designed to protect the therapeutic relationship, minimize disruption to ongoing care, and allow providers to remain focused on treatment rather than litigation.

Through authorized consultation with treating therapists, psychiatrists, or other behavioral health professionals, the consultant gathers clinically relevant information regarding diagnosis, symptoms, functional impact, treatment progress, and prognosis. That information is then synthesized into an objective written report or summary that translates treatment-based knowledge into language useful for attorneys, courts, or decision-makers. When appropriate, the Independent Clinical Consultant may provide deposition or testimony in place of the treating provider, allowing the provider’s clinical perspective to be communicated without requiring their direct court involvement.

All services are conducted independently from the treating relationship and are structured to preserve appropriate ethical and professional boundaries. The primary purpose of this role is accurate clinical interpretation, protection of the therapeutic alliance, and reduction of unnecessary burden on treating professionals while still ensuring the court receives reliable mental health information.

Professional consultation is billed at $250 per hour, with optional five-hour and ten-hour consultation blocks available for $1,250 and $2,500 respectively. Services may transition to more formal report preparation or testimony if later required and clinically appropriate.
