About
William Smith, LCSW is an Atlanta-based forensic mental health evaluator, legal consultant, mediator, and psychotherapist. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Washington, one of the top-ranked programs in the U.S. Both degrees were specialized in forensic mental health.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Will is qualified to provide court-admissible mental health diagnoses on most psychiatric conditions.
Will offers affordable forensic evaluations—typically at flat rates or $250/hour—compared to forensic psychiatrists and psychologists, who often charge $500–$700/hour, and is prepared to testify regarding the findings.
Will’s professional background is heavily grounded in diagnosing, including evaluating and diagnosing mental health conditions while working under psychiatrists for many years.
His career includes psychiatric assessment roles at Emory Hospital as well as a major metro-Atlanta public mental health clinic, where he gained deep expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health conditions.
As a result of his professional experience, Will has completed thousands of mental health evaluations.
Since 2019, he has worked full-time in private practice, specializing at the intersection of PTSD, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Forensics. He frequently attends forensic trainings, and has received post-graduate training in immigration, child custody evaluations, criminal mitigation, disability, and mediation, to name a few.
He is highly experienced in educating legal professionals on the role of mental health in forensic contexts. He serves as a graduate practicum instructor for institutions such as Northwestern University, UGA, LSU, GSU, and USC, training Masters and Doctoral students in psychopathology and case conceptualization.
In addition to forensic services, Will is the Clinical Director for several practices in Atlanta, including Greater Atlanta Family Counseling, Athens Family Counseling, The Atlanta Center for EMDR, and The Atlanta Marriage and Mediation Clinic.
